Myoko Natural Water Finishing – Special Page

Mount Myoko

One of Niigata Prefecture’s most iconic mountains, it is also known as Echigo Fuji. It is the symbol of the region where the Maruni flagship store is located, and its unique climate, which combines history and culture originating from ancient mountain worship with the blessings of nature, has nurtured the region’s unique food culture and crafts. Hot springs bubble up at the foot of the mountain, and it is known as one of Japan’s heaviest snow regions and is also a resort area for winter sports.

Natural Water

The abundant natural water that flows from the deep snow that accumulates in the Myoko mountain range melts underground and springs up at the Maruni flagship store. It contains seven times the iron content of normal water. This water, which is imbued with the unique characteristics of this land, is one of the essential ingredients for creating original jeans that can only be made here.

Soaking

The jeans are soaked in natural water containing seven times the usual amount of iron, which reacts with the indigo to create a deep, rich iron blue that can only be achieved by Marni Jeans from this region. This soaking process is carried out throughout the year.

Snow Exposure

Only available in winter, we perform snow bleaching, a traditional technique from Niigata. When snow melts in the heat of the sun and turns into steam, ozone, which has sterilizing and bleaching properties, is generated. When this ozone passes through the fabric, a chemical reaction occurs, bleaching the fibers and improving their color. This is a processing method unique to snowy regions, utilizing the wisdom of our ancestors.

Sun Drying

Jeans dried in a dryer tend to shrink excessively. By slowly drying them in the breezes and sunlight of Myoko, the jeans maintain their original beautiful silhouette while highlighting the inherent unevenness and rough texture of the denim fabric.

Aging

Soaking in natural water, snow exposure, and sun drying gives indigo color of the jeans deeper, and the fabric weave becomes denser. The beautiful faded look created by these elements makes the most of Myoko’s climate and makes these jeans something that simply can’t be made anywhere else. The more you wear them, the more they develop a unique character, becoming your one-of-a-kind, original jeans.
